AN OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT

 

                  The department of Bengali was introduced with the inception of the college way back in 1964. The Department started its journey with Sri Karuna Sindhu Dey being its first faculty teacher. With the passage of  time, the department became enriched with some teachers who had contributed their best for the department and the college as a whole, such as Sri Bankim Nath, Dr. Amiya Banerjee, Sri Pritish Deshmukhya. Presently, there are three faculty members in this department headed by Dr. Sima Rekha Das.

1.   Dr. Sima Rekha Das (M.A., PhD, B.Ed) Associate Professor and Head of the department.

2.  Dr. Lakshmi Nath (M.A., M.Phill, PhD) Assistant Professor

3.  Dr.  Mayurakhi Nath (M.A. PhD) Assistant Professor

 

Objectives of the Department :

 

  • To strengthen the academic excellence.
  • To enhance the quality of learning and teaching process to stimulate original thinking through proper discussion and participation on socio-cultural activities.
  • To promote networking and strengthen ties with neighboring institutions.
  • To conduct specialized programmes for faculty improvement for optimizing technical capabilities.
  • To provide better library facility to students and teachers.

Departmental Activities:

 

The departmental wall magazine ‘DEYALIKA’ is done annually. And departmental magazine is ‘JATRIK’ 

 

The courses offered by the department are :

 

-+2 level                : Higher Secondary Courses (affiliated to Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, Guwahati)

B.A programme : Three years Degree Program ( both pass & honours) which is affiliated to Assam University , Silchar

Strength :

 

  • The teachers belong to different field of specializations such as Literary theory, Cultural and Social activities & Comparative Studies.
  • Good teaching environment, skill, experienced and dedicated faculties, hard working nature, punctual, discipline and well- mannered.
  • The department posseses both Pass and Honours courses.
  • Cordial Teacher – student relation in the department.

Weakness :

 

  • Department faces difficulties to maintain departmental activities due to shortage of staff.
  • Lack of financial support from the government.

Opportunities :

 

  • Having good infrastructural facilities exposure to other career oriented related courses.

Challenges :

 

  • The department has the challenge to improve results of the pass & honours courses.
  • The department has the challenge to develop spirit of competition among the students for doing good result.
  • The department has the challenge to guide students not only in academic field but also in the pursuit of good careers.

Future Prospects :

 

  • To conduct workshops, seminars etc.
  • To publish the departmental Magazine.
  • To make the department as one of the best in locality.
  • To arrange guest lecture.
  • To arrange entrepreneurial tour.
